Rev. John Wallace is our new Pastoral Visitor.  He joins our staff following a full career of ministry in the PCUSA.  John graduated from Duke University Divinity School in 1970.  He was ordained to his first pastoral call in 1970 by Yadkin Presbytery (North Carolina).

His first call was to First Presbyterian Church in Buffalo, New York as the Minister of Christian Education.  The focus of his ministry was children and youth.  He was also the director of the church summer camp, and director of the church nursery school, both of which served the surrounding community, as well as the church members.  He also provided pastoral care for the families of the children and youth.  While serving there, John met and married his wife Elizabeth.

His first solo pastorate was at Greystone Presbyterian in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania (near Pittsburgh).  John fulfilled all the pastoral duties.  He  earned his Doctor of Ministry Degree at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 1977.

John’s next call was to the United Presbyterian Church in Nampa, Idaho as solo pastor.  He grew up in nearby Boise and graduated from Borah High School.  He also served as the Moderator of Boise Presbytery and Nampa Rotary Club President.  Upon completing his work there, John finished a year of Clinical Pastoral Education at St. Luke’s Hospital in Boise.

The next move for John and Liz was to their current home in Hillsboro, OR.  After completing his first phase of Interim Training in the PCUSA, John served in three Interim Pastor positions:  Cannon Beach, Dallas, OR, and the Reedville Church in Aloha, OR.

In 1996, John was called to be the installed pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church in northeast Portland.  At the end of twelve years of service, John was granted the status of Honorably Retired by the Cascades Presbytery.
Called out of retirement a few months later, John served as the Pastoral Visitor for Mt. Tabor Presbyterian in southeast Portland, until they found a new full time pastor.
